Writing an Ebook

December 8th, 2008 by Kenric

I’ve been toying with writing an ebook about starting and running a successful ecommerce niche store lately.  I’ve been doing this for only one year and I’ve never thought that I could or would be considered an expert in this field.  In fact, I merely think that I’m lucky that my first ecommerce store has flourished and is doing so well.

In fact, my ebiz1 store has become one of the top sellers in its niche according to my dropshippers and suppliers.  They tell me that my store’s volume is right up there with my competitors.  I believe that I understand what it takes to make a successful niche store.

My customers give me feedback and tell me why they purchased from me instead of my competitors.  One common feedback is that my site is the most informative and has the best photos.  Remember, my site is priced higher than my competitors.  I haven’t posted my ebiz1 earnings on this blog in a few months, but I can definitely say that sales have skyrocketed in the past few months.

In comparing Ebiz1 vs Ebiz5 (which sell the same items) I can clearly see what customers want.  I spent alot of time developing Ebiz1.  Ebiz5 I threw together with manufacturer text descriptions and standard product images.  And although Ebiz5 is cheaper than Ebiz1, people are purchasing from Ebiz1 by a ratio of 4:1.

So getting back to my ebook…  I want to write about the exact steps that I did in the past year to get Ebiz1 from nothing to a top seller, ranked #4-7 in Google for the main keywords and getting 250+ unique visitors a day.  It will not be the ecommerce bible or anywhere close.  It will be a basic book that explains things at a high level but with some real meat on how to do it.

A few days ago I came across a site called Practical Ecommerce and I say that many people who get into dropshipping or just ecommerce were failing.  They all seem to pay a huge amount for a Yahoo store or other platform.  Then they put up products and wait for sales that never come.  Because of this, I decided to start writing this ebook.  I think I can help others who do not understand SEO, PPC or just plain simple business tactics.

I won’t exaggerate the potential earnings or the ease of which to make money.  I truly want to write an easy to understand ebook which will help people, not screw people out of more money. Of course I will be charging a decent price for the ebook.  I believe in value and that value with beget sales.  If someone pays for my ebook and it turns their store around and makes money then my ebook purchase was worth it to them and to me.  In return, they testimonial will get me more sales.

  4. Ken,
I think it would be a great idea for to write an ebook. Your whole experience here has been a great story and the process would be good to learn.

  5. I read that the best way to attract customers was to educate them. It seems that theory is working for you!

The eBook idea is good. Hopefully this will translate into more stable sales year around. eBiz#1 seems to have a large glut around Christmas time. It would be nice to have a large glut year round. :)
