Turning $1 into $1,000: A Poker Goal
May 19th, 2007 by KenricI actually had $0.75 left in my account, so I asked my friend to send me $0.25 into my account. $1 is the minimum that you need to get onto a table at Pokerstars. I told him that I was going to turn that $1 into $1,000. He said, that would be great if you could do it, and if you wrote about it. So I decided that I would.
So as of right now, I’ve played 253 hands at $0.01/$0.02 tables and my balance is $8.56. Reaching $10.00 will be my first goal. As with everything, money management is the key. Once I go back down to $0, this journey ends, there is no reloading. Therefore, I cannot gamble with my entire bankroll of $8.56. I sit at the microstakes tables with $1. Once I build that up over $2, I leave and go to another table and sit down with $1. I am following this strict strategy until I clear $25. I am basically putting a $1 stop limit on my losses at each table. The drawback is that I miss large potential gains on doubling up on monster hands. However, because there is no reloading, I cannot risk all my money.
Here are my milestones, $10, $25, $50, $100, $200, $500, $1000.
I realistically need to have about $50 in order to move up to the $0.02/$0.05 tables. This should be an interesting challenge.
UPDATE: May 18th, 399 total hands, $10.87 (1st milestone reached)
UPDATE: May 19th, 1008 total hands, $17.85
UPDATE: May 21st, 1742 total hands, $23.71

Money management, sure, but what about time management? how much time are you spending on this :)

I haven’t been keeping track. I generally play 75 hands/hr/table. So if I 4 table, its about 300 hands/hr. However, I’m mostly playing 2 tables and watching tv or reading at the same time.
