The Rose Bowl and the Super Bowl

The Rose Bowl

This morning I was able to get 4 tickets to the Rose Bowl.  The purpose this time wasn’t to make money online.  It was because I really wanted to go to the Rose Bowl.  My fellow Fighting Illini will be playing USC in Pasadena on January 1st.

I feel really lucky to get tickets this morning.  There were about 2,000 tickets for sale starting at 8am Arizona time on www.FightingIllini.com.  My friend and I jumped on at 8:00am and began the try to buy a ticket and hit refresh game.  At 8:01am I got the message that said “There is no longer inventory for the event you’ve selected” message.  I thought it was over.  I hit refresh and then got a “System is busy” message.  I had assumed that all the tickets were gone and they shut down the site.

However, my friend went to an Illini Fan message board and someone had mentioned that they were in the process of paying for tickets when the server went down.  This meant that the server shutdown was not intended but due to traffic load.  So with that news, we waited and waited.  The site came up again about 5 minutes later but had added waiting room software to it.  Now they were only allowing a limited number of users into the system.  So we did the Ctrl+N trick and opened up 40 windows.  This basically makes you look like 40 people in the waiting room which greatly increases your chances of getting picked.

A minute later and my friend and I were both in.  We were able to secure many tickets but in the end decided to purchase only 4.  We were able to go back in and look for better seats.  There didn’t seem to be anyone on the site at this time.  I think that many people gave up after the website went down at 8:01am and had assumed like I did that the site was down because no tickets were available.

The Super Bowl

Since all of my rentals are full, I didn’t think I’d get the chance to do a Super Bowl rental this year.  However, one of my friends had a tenant leave (evicted) last week.  The chances that he’d get his place rented in January are very slim, so we decided to furnish it and turn it into a vacation rental.  A successful weekly Super Bowl rental will equal 6-8 months of regular renting.

We have to get it cleaned up, furnish it and get it rented.  Finally, some real estate stuff to do and write about.

This basically makes you look like 40 people in the waiting room which greatly increases your chances of getting picked.” I love all those tricks you come up with! calling for an inspection on the stickler’s day off, etc. Did you get them from a book or is it just information gleaned from others?

  5. That trick actually came from a friend 5 years ago who bought an e-book for $5 from Ebay on how to get tickets to events. Probably the best $5 he’s spent. :)

  6. BTW, that inspector trick was from a how to get out of speeding tickets book. You’re suppose schedule your court date on the same day as the officer’s day off. When he doesn’t show and you ticket is thrown out. I’ve never had to try it. I don’t remember the name of the book though.

  7. Its amazing how much Super Bowl tickets are. Do you think there is any chance of getting something infront of the stadium right after the game starts?

  8. I don’t know, this will be my first year trying. I’m sure there will be scalpers but I just wonder what the price of their tickets will be.

I know that at the Rose Bowl tickets were easy to come by outside the stadium, but then again it wasn’t a great matchup.

Your USC should have played LSU in the BCS Championship.
