Last Friday was playoff time in the Scottsdale Coed Softball League. Our team was not playing very well this season. We were 4-10 and near the bottom of the league. Therefore, when we found out that we were playing a team that was 11-3 in the 1st round at 6:30pm, we naturally assumed that we were going to get spanked. So we made plans to eat dinner at 7:30pm and planned to go see the movie “The Hangover.” We also had plans to go mountain biking in Prescott on Saturday morning at 6am.
Everything was going as planned as we stepped up to the plate in the final inning down 8-16. To make a long story short, we finished the inning with 11 runs and held a 19-16 lead going into the bottom of the inning. Our lead held up and we were advancing to the next round. We then won the 2nd round game 17-7 and it was on to the championship game.
The team we played in the championship was 14-0 and had just won their playoff game 20-0. After the 3rd inning we were down only 5-2. Now, I wish I could say that we had a miracle comeback and won the league championship, but we were unable to pull off our 3rd win and finished in 2nd place.
We all went to celebrate at a local restaurant and called it a night at around 12:30am. Needless to say, we didn’t get to see the movie and none of us woke up at 6am the next morning to go mountain biking.
