The 30 minute challenge

February 9th, 2007 by Kenric

I was listening to a self-help / online marketing video online today and it was talking about “doers.”  It stated that many people read books with the real intentions of doing what’s in the book.  The biggest problem is the timeframe.  Many people read books and just put them away thinking that they will use them as a reference once they decide to start.  That’s the key.  Such a big difference between deciding to start and actually starting.

Anyway, this video said, “Start now!  Go to your affiliate, choose a random product, make a webpage, advertise on Adwords and just see how it goes.  In 30 minutes you have to be done!”  I was curious to see what I could do in 30 minutes.  It was 10:30am.  I logged onto my Commission Junction account, closed my eyes and moved my mouse around and clicked onto an affiliate.

Then I created a web quick page using their links, typed up some content after reading about what they do, added some Adsense to it, uploaded it to a URL I had.

The next step was going to Google Adwords and creating a campaign to advertise it.  I used a budget of $2/day and I’m going to run it for 10 days.  Let’s see what my $20 gets me on Feb. 19th.

I finished at 11:05am.  So it took me 35 minutes.  So I cheated and went 5 minutes over.  I couldn’t stop at 30 minutes because the site was no good without an Adwords campaign.
