That moment

That Moment
When you are sitting right on the edge of something daring and scary and creative and powerful and perhaps wonderful… and you blink and take a step back. That’s the moment. The moment between you and remarkable. Most people blink. Most people get stuck.
All the hard work and preparation and daring and luck is nothing compared with the ability to not blink.
It seems like there’s always a moment when you take that leap. Up until then, you’ve been thinking about it, planning for it and dreaming about it. But you can usually look back and say that there was one moment in which you truly went forward.
For me, it was the day that I told my boss I was giving my two weeks notice. Until that day, I had prepared for my move by selling my home, securing a place to live out west and mentally thinking about the move and the new life. However, is wasn’t until I walked out of that meeting that it hit me. I was really going to do it.
I’m finding that it gets harder to push forward into the unknown as you learn more about yourself, life and happiness. Now that I’ve done it once… I know what’s coming and it’s more difficult to do it again. I don’t know why. It should be easier right?
It’s like watching little kids on skateboards crash down rails and stairs. They have no fear of getting hurt. But now you’re older. You think about the pain, the soreness, the hospital bills, etc… before even attempting to jump on a skateboard.
So now I’m attempting to get to that moment again. I don’t know what it will be… but when it appears I hope I don’t blink.

I’m reminded of the quote from Walt Whitman: Either define the moment or the moment will define you.
There’s no doubt when it’s right you’ll pull the trigger.

Amen Ken, changing the course of your life is just as scary as seeing where you were headed. For example, we don’t know if we’ll die tomorrow, but would you rather know if you were going to die tomorrow? On top of that, once you change course, the more you learn, the more you realize you don’t know.
