Tenant wants to buy the house they are renting
December 5th, 2006 by KenricI manage a couple rentals for my parents also. When I see one of their tenants calling on caller ID it’s usually a bad thing. They are great tenants by the way. It’s just that I’ve had a few maintenance issues during their tenancy that cost me big bucks. So I cring at the thought of them calling. The first thing that ran through my mind was “What’s broken and I hope it doesn’t cost alot to fix”. To my delight, she said that they would like to buy the house if my parents wanted to sell it. Now I need to talk to my parents and find out what they want to do.

“When I see one of their tenants calling on caller ID it’s usually a bad thing.” That’s funny! I feel the same way when my tenants call.
Anyways, maybe your parents can do a 1031 exchange. But if the tenants have been keeping the property in good condition and it’s providing decent cash flow, I would keep it.

As tenants, they are too familiar with your house as they stay there for a long time. If I rent your house, I also will offer you a deal.
