Placing my Salt Lake City townhomes up for sale
April 24th, 2007 by KenricI’m preparing for the move into a larger multi-family building so I’m putting up my SLC townhomes for sale to do a 1031. So last week, I put a feeler ad out on craigslist to see if there was any interest.
Monday morning, 13 calls, all from realtors who want to help me sell them by listing them. Monday afternoon, I revise my ad to say “No selling agents, I am not interested.” Tuesday, 10 calls. Wednesday 3 calls.
There seem to be 4 types of realtors on these calls:
1) The pretend I’m a buyer and I’m interested in the property. Ask a bunch of questions about it. Then ask why I don’t have a realtor and would I be interested in one?
2) The I’m a realtor upfront, do you want me to list your home? No? Hang up.
3) The I’m a realtor and I may have someone interested in your property. Ask a bunch of questions and then say, do you need help selling it?
4) The I hate realtors realtor who trys to be your friend. This type calls and says I bet you’ve gotten a million calls from realtors trying to get you to list the place. Then I say, “Yeah, you’re call number 1,000,001.” Then they say, “they have some nerve. So how come you aren’t listing with a realtor?”
The answer that gets them off the phone the quickest is, “I have a friend who’s a realtor who I’m going to list it with in a few weeks.”
I don’t know what they are thinking. But being a “dick” isn’t going to make me want to list my property with you. And talking crap about my realtor friend doesn’t help things either.
