No more 00 prices

December 4th, 2008 by Kenric

When I first launched Ebiz5, I decided to do the 00 pricing.  This meant all my prices ended in 00 instead of 99 or 95.  I had a dry spell on ebiz5 for a few days and could not figure why it wasn’t converting.

Oddly enough I really think it was due to my SSL certificate image.  That was the only change I made in that time period.  However, when my site wasn’t converting I went back to what works for other people.  I dropped my 00 pricing and changed everything to 99.  I also removed the certificate image.

Before $95.00  —>  After $94.99

I started getting sales again, but I can’t really say if it was due to either of my changes.  I just know that its fixed now and I’m not going to mess with the site if its converting.

My PPC is down to $0.08 a click, which is great.  Now, I can afford to have over 400 visitors without a sale and break even.  Not that that ever happens. ;-)

  2. I read this article once, talking about how people equate 00 with expensive.

    95.99 doesn’t seem as expensive as 95.00

It’s weird and offered no scientific explanation for it. For my products, I do it by default.

It’s great you’re getting some good results!

  3. You put up a SSL image or took it off before the sales stopped?

I usually try to do 98 for some reason i have found that to work even better. going to do some real testing here soon on the new sites.

  4. Do you think 99 pricing works for high prices items, where I don’t use cents?

    $1,650 vs. $1,649.99

Doesn’t the decimal make it look more expensive?

  5. The sales stopped when I put my SSL certificate on. I don’t know if it confused people or what, but that was the only change I had made.

  6. For large expensive products, you shouldn’t advertise .99 cents.

    $1,650 vs $1,649

At these prices I don’t think you should be trying to squeeze an extra 99 cents out of your prices.

  7. I agree, when it comes to advertising large numbers, who really includes the change? It seems like a mute point.

  8. But $1649 is better than $1650?
