My dog ate my rent checks…
April 4th, 2006 by KenricYes, I came home from the zoo today and I see a pile of little pieces of paper on the floor. Upon further investigation the pieces of paper were all from what use to be my rent checks! How she decided to chew just these particular pieces of paper when there are a ton of them nearby is a mystery. Now, I normally don’t go leaving my checks on the floor. With my home on the market last week I had to keep the place emmaculate. This usually means no clutter on the countertops! So I received my rents last week and I put them in a folder. When potential buyers come to view my home I take all the folders and put them in a corner on the floor away from the general view. Well, I didn’t bring the folder back up to the counters last night, so my dog found them.
Now to complicate things… these checks came from different sources.
One check is from a regular tenant who I just called and asked to send me a new check.
Another check is for my Section 8 tenant which was sent by the city. This is the check that I’m the most worried about. I call the city and tell them that my dog ate my rent check. The lady asks me if I still have the check cause they need proof. I tell them that I have about 4 pieces of it. I guess they want to make sure that I’m not scamming them by claiming I destroyed a check and then after they send me a new one, I go cash both of them! Woo hoo, double rent for the month. Yeah right. Well, the city accountant was off today so I just left him a voice mail. Hopefully he calls tomorrow and I can get this resolved.
Another check is from Countrywide Loans. It was a escrow refund check from a refinance back in August 2005? I had totally forgot about that, for some reason I thought I received it and had cashed it already. Anyway, I called them up and they were suprisingly easy to deal with. The lady just said, “ok, we’ll put a stop payment on the other check and cut you a new one.” Great!

Hello, now how come that works in real life (My dog ate my check).
It never worked more me in school with homework.
Tough luck. Hope everything works out.
