More credit card fraud

August 22nd, 2007 by Kenric

Since I had $2000 taken from my brokerage account last year I set up email alerts on almost any type of transaction taken from any of my accounts.  Yes, it has been very annoying for the past year but the monitoring paid off on Monday.

I got an email of a transaction from one of my credit cards that I haven’t used for 6 months.  I immediately checked my account and there were two charges for plane tickets on Southwest from last Thursday.  Apparently the instant notification took 2 days this time.  I called the credit card company and reported them.  They shut down my account immediately.

This bothers me because I know for sure that this fraud wasn’t due to my misuse of my data.  The credit card is in my hand.  I hadn’t used it in 6 months.  Somewhere somehow somebody else released this critical information.

As a safe guard I ran a credit check and was pleased to see that my credit score has gone up even with all my mortgages, and that there were no unauthorized activities on it.  Whew!

  2. This reminds me that it is time to order another of my free credit reports. Last time I ordered one from Experian and I think I will order the one from Equifax next. I’m glad to know that you did not lose any money in here.
