Making Money Online – February 2008

March 2nd, 2008 by Kenric

It’s time for the monthly ”Making Money Online” post.  February saw my adsense drop back down to what I call its normal level.  You will recall that last month the blog itself made $256 in adsense which was mainly due to the Superbowl rental ads.   With the Superbowl coming and going, those posts which were getting hundreds of views a day went to zero.

The purpose of this blog is not to make money with it.  Sometimes I get lucky with a few posts and they bring in some long term income.  I do not write the post thinking that the ads it may show will lead to alot of money.  The difference between making a few hundred here and the potential of the $12.4 million dollar apartment building are sheer magnitudes apart.  I make these posts because money is money and data is data.  Plus without writing these posts, I really don’t keep track of this stuff anywhere else.

So before the January bump, this blog was doing a consistent $100, $92, $93 and $75 in previous months.  So the $98 it brought in in February is right inline with expectations.

In January 2008, my online income was $1,084.  That’s another month on the decline.  Not the direction I want.

Technically, I could bump the income for February and surpass my January income because my ebiz1 had 2 orders come in at 11:40pm on February 29th.  However, I did not read those orders until March 1st.  But does it really matter?   My ebiz1 made $792 in February which is shy of the $810 it made in January.  The biggest change in the store was free shipping on every order.  It doubled my sales rate but brought down profits.

The biggest change in my ebiz1 was that I spent over $350 in advertising in February to get the same amount of sales as January.  In January I only spent $240 in advertising.  I’m not sure how to interpret this data yet.  I’ll make a different post with my Google funnel to compare in the future.

Here is the breakdown:

Adsense revenue from this blog: $98
Adsense revenue from other sites: $51
Revenue from advertising sales: $46
Revenue from affiliate sales: $97
Ebiz 1: $792

Total Revenue: $1084
