Making money online by putting knowledge to work

November 30th, 2006 by Kenric

When I get interested in something I try to get as much information as possible on it.  I read everything I can find online, I buy a bunch of books and most importantly I implement it.  When I was doing this for real estate, it was very hard to immediately implement something I read.  In fact, I read for about 2 years before I found a property to buy.  With real estate there is alot of re-reading those old books when the time finally comes.

On a whim I created a site for Trump and Kiyosaki’s new book back in October.  Little did I know that that one page website would take me into the world of affiliates, Google, cost per click and making money online.  Since that day, I’ve been reading alot about search engine optimization, keyword importance and ways to increase traffic.  What is great about this is that you can instantly implement what you read.  There were many times where I would read something in a book at Barnes & Noble and immediately jump on my laptop in the store and try it.  You can’t get more hands on than that.  I’ll post the little tips that I’ve been slowly implementing that anyone can do to their blog.

I would say that October was a trial month where I had no idea what I was doing.  It was also a real short month for Adsense on my book pages.  My base knowledge was only that of buying a domain, setting up a page and paying for ads with Google Adwords.

Here are my October results:

  • Revenue from this blog:  $11.07 over 14 days ($0.79/day)
  • Revenue from my We want you to be rich sites: $11.77 over 3 days ($3.92/day)
  • Revenue from Amazon sales: $12.87 over 20 days ($0.64/day)

Total revenue was $35.71

My total expenses were:

  • $6 for registering my blog domain
  • $12 for registering my 2 book domains
  • $5 for hosting
  • $0 for Google Adwords (Google gives you a $25 credit coupon for new accounts – I spent $20.43 of it)

My profit was $12.71, which I don’t think was too bad for my first few weeks.  If you take out the start up (domain name) costs, it wasn’t bad at all.  Going forward, my only re-occurring expenses will be the $5 hosting and the cost of advertising at Google.

My post in mid-month two weeks ago covered a 30 day period from Oct 10th to Nov 10th in case you’re wondering why the numbers are so different. Going forward I’ll try to update this monthly on the 1st.

  2. I visited the 1&1 site after looking at the icon on the right and I thought, hm, that $4.99/month seems like a good deal. Thanks for this posting, now I know which one you’re using. I may try that too.

  4. JJT, I’m using the 1&1 Home package. They charge me at $30 every 6 months. I havent’s had any problems with them and definitely recommend them. This is my 3rd hosting provider since 2001. The first one had tons of downtime and was just slow. The second one was cheaper $3/mo but their control panel sucked and customer service did too. I’m hosting 19 sites with this $5 account.

  5. Great. I have maintained few sites over the years and have placed them on my ISP including our church website, and there is no extra charges. But if I want to use my own domain name, then they will charge me a lot. With all this info, I think this is a good place to try. Once again, thanks for sharing.
