Making better use of my rental websites

April 4th, 2007 by Kenric

My first investment property was a condo built by Optima and when it was complete I purchased the website Optimacondos.com and was using it to rent out my condo.  The site was great at bringing in callers.  However, after I got my one and only Optima condo rented I would still consistently get one of two calls a week asking if I had any others available.  I would usually take down the site, only to put it back up when my tenant was leaving.

But now since I’ve discovered the power of the internet I realized that I was wasting a URL by removing it.  I decided to put it to good use.  Optimacondos.com slowly creeped up around #2-#5 in Google for the search terms optima, condos, rent.  It’s not a popular search term, but people who type that in know exactly what they’re looking for.  So instead of letting the site sit there and do nothing I decided to make it a “for rent” site where owners of these condos can post their ads.

It’s been up less than a week and I’ve gotten alot of registered users and a few posts.  Unfortunately, the free ad software isn’t the greatest so the site doesn’t look too professional.  I guess I could by pro-ad software and then charge people a small fee like $5 to post ads on there.  But for now, it’s just going to be a free site and I’m going to monitor its traffic.

I have a few other website URLs like this one so I may do the same with them in the future.

  2. Seems like an excellent idea. what free software are you using, cause it looks like it can be modified. It looks fine to me!

  3. I’m using Geodesic solutions software. It can be modified but the free version has limitations on this.

The biggest being, one image per ad.
