Living in Phoenix you become a wuss to cold weather

May 1st, 2007 by Kenric

This summer is going to be my 3rd summer here.  I just realized that I am now a wuss when it comes to cold weather.  It’s 98 degrees outside, I’m digging up my landscaping and I don’t feel hot.

As I type this, I stare at my thermostat and it says 84 and I don’t feel the need to have the AC on!  Remember, I’m from Chicago.  I used to wear short sleeve t-shirts when it was 30 degrees outside.  I only wore long sleeve if the wind chill was below zero.  The first year I lived here, I did not wear long pants or a jacket through the entire winter.  The second year, I did, but no jacket.  Last year, I wore jeans and a jacket most of the time.

In Chicago during the winter I kept the house at 68 degrees, in the summer I had the AC at 80 degrees.

Here in Phoenix I have the house at 74 degrees in the winter and sometimes I feel cold!  In the summer last year I kept it at 80 degrees, but somehow right now, I can tolerate 84 no problem!

  2. It is funny how we adjust to our climate. I remember sitting outside a couple summers ago thinking how nice it was…and it was 103! lol
