It’s time for Cubs tickets again

February 20th, 2008 by Kenric

Last year I talked about making money with Cubs tickets.  Well this Friday is that day again.  Selling Cubs tickets wasn’t as successful last year and previous years.  That is because there was no Cubs hype during spring training last year.  The Cubs weren’t suppose to be that good and they ended up in the playoffs.

Every year there is always a new twist in buying tickets.  The online ticket sellers are constantly trying to improve their system to prevent savvy people from buying up all the tickets.  I’m sure something will be different once the buying starts.

I’m not going to try to buy every ticket I can get my hands on this year.  I’m just going to try and get a few premium games only.  Also, instead of selling them on Ebay, I’m just going to put them on craigslist.  Last year Ebay kept cancelling my auctions and I had to keep relisting.  I had better luck using craigslist.  For payment I’m going to ask for Paypal or a cashiers’ check.  I may decide to accept personal checks because I will have time to wait until the checks clear before I send out the tickets.

Print at home or real tickets?

Last year I got all print at home tickets.  I’ve found that most people would rather have the actual tickets.  They feel better getting real tickets than just an email.  A couple buyers expressed that it would be their children’s first baseball game and they wanted real ticket stubs to keep.  What I ended up doing with the print at home tickets was that I went to Kinko’s and printed them out in laser printer color on thick cardstock paper.  Therefore, they felt like real tickets.  I think print at home is hit or miss.  It really depends on who you end up selling your tickets to.  If you sell them to some young guy who is internet savvy, he won’t care.  In fact, a few people asked for email tickets instead of printed.

The thing about real tickets is that you have to pay alot for shipping.  If you decide to get real tickets don’t get the regular shipping, pay for the faster shipping.  The reason is if you choose regular shipping, they will ship you the tickets about a month before the game.  If you sell these tickets to someone else on February 20th and the game isn’t until August 1st, you’re buyer will be very nervous come July 1st.  You’ll have to explain to them that you don’t have the tickets yet and they have to trust you that you’ll get them the tickets on time.  If you pay for faster shipping, your tickets are sent out first before the regularly shipped tickets even if your game is in August they will be sent out in March.  You will pay about $20 more for faster shipping which eats into your profit.

I am going to get all real tickets this year with the faster shipping.
