I need to open up a self directed IRA
December 12th, 2006 by KenricI decided that I dont want to purchase any more stocks with it so I’m going to move my money into a self directed IRA so that I can do more things with the money. Now my search for a self directed IRA company starts. Can any readers recommend one?
Here’s an interesting article relating to self directed IRA’s.

Isn’t an account that you can buy individual stocks in self directed (rather than being with a specific fund company)? Or does this mean something else? Who is the account with now?

Moom, With a self-directed IRA I can invest the money in many other things, including real estate which is what I want to do with it. I am not limited to just buying stocks and funds. My account is with Schwab right now.

Good move. I have a sizeable 401(k) with my company and called the benefits people to inquire as to whether I can roll that over into a SDIRA, but they said “No” (unless, of course, I left the company).

I have my self-directed Roth IRA with American Pension Services (APS). The website is http://www.aps-utah.com. I opened the account just a couple of years ago, but I have since directed funds from my account and my wife’s into a Roth IRA LLC, which owns an interest in some land in New Mexico.

Timely post… Many investors are moving to self directed IRAs.
I wanted to point out that there is a difference between a self directed IRA and a truly self directed IRA in which you can invest in alternative assets such as real estate and tax liens. You can learn more about the benefits of a truly self directed IRA at http://www.irallcpartner.com.
