Flip this house was scammed
June 3rd, 2007 by Kenric“McGee and others say Leccima’s episodes of “Flip This House,” A&E’s most popular show, were elaborate hoaxes. His friends and family were presented as potential homebuyers and “sold” signs were slapped in front of unsold houses. They say the home repairs _ the lynchpin of the show _ were actually quick or temporary patch jobs designed to look good on camera.”
“WAGA-TV in Atlanta, which first aired the claims against Leccima, has shown footage from inside one of the homes, which had mismatched wooden floors and unpainted patched walls that were out of the view of TV cameras on “Flip This House.”"

I’m not surprised by this. Trading Spaces went through a similar “scandal” when people realized that it was PAs doing all the work and that the quality was terrible because PAs know nothing about interior decorating.
You think the network was scammed? I highly doubt it. What makes for good tv means a heck of a lot more than what is actually happening.

I don’t think they were scammed in the context that they knew the houses were fixed up poorly and that the buyers were fake. I’m sure its not good TV to have nobody show up at the open house.
On the site flipthislawsuit.com they have craigslist ads in which the Montelongo’s were looking for extras to show up on the open house day to act as buyers.
I think A&E was scammed by the people appearing on the show claiming to be someone that they were not.
BTW, I saw ads on craigslist a few weeks ago looking for house flippers to appear on the show.

I always wondered about the “Flip this house” people. Every now and then, they have a “6 months later” show. But I’m forced to wonder if the people are really selling their homes for what the realtor says they can sell them for.
And why they never take into account the closing costs/fees when they talk about their “Projected Profit” is beyond me.
