DIY fountain or water feature

At my new house, the old owners left me an unworking concrete fountain. The fountain looks alot like this one except that it’s in 5 pieces, probably leaks and has a few chips. My plan was to patch up leak and chips and repaint the fountain to a gray stonelike look. I’d put in a solar powered pump like this one and I’d have a nice little fountain in the front yard.
I’ve thought about building a custom one in the backyard along with a fireplace and a BBQ grill station. I’ve got the new house money pit syndrome. The good news is that I can do all of it myself, thus saving alot of money!
Here are some fountains that I’ve seen at the model homes. By the way, almost every model home in Arizona has a fountain or water feature in the front entrance or courtyard. Some are real nice and others are just annoying sounding.
This is a pretty common half wall version of the fountain that I have. If I’m going to take the time to build a fountain, it’s got to look custom.

This is another half wall fountain. This looks pretty easy to duplicate and requires only a small little pump to run.

Here is a more contemporary fountain. I’d like to give this one a shot. I’m pretty sure I can build this one. But again, it’s a fairly common design in office parks and commercial buildings.

Now here’s the water feature that is so simple to do. Frame a half wall, tile it with slate or some other stone, add a pump and element of design and you’ve got a great custom water feature! Best yet, it would probably cost you $150 in materials plus a pump and it would be one of a kind. I think I’m going to try to build a smaller version that is similar to this one.

And of course, here would be its matching fireplace. But that’s a project for another time.
