Update on SEO results of my first blog contest

October 31st, 2007 by Kenric

As I was researching my search engine rankings for my first ecommerce site.  I decided to check up on the SEO results of the first blog contest that I ran back in June of this year.  As some of you may remember, I was giving away an Ipod Shuffle and the way to enter the contest was to write a small snippet about it on your blog linking to Onboard Circuits.

When the contest was completed in July, I made a post about how the site jumped up very quickly in SERPs (Search Engine Results Position) for the two keyword phrases that were targeted.  A few people wondered if the SERPs would continue to rank as high since once the contest was over there would be no new links to the site.  Some thought that the site would slowly drop back down to its original rankings.

The picture below shows the progression of SERPs up to yesterday.

For the Keyword 1, Onboard continues to climb in Google.  It went from not being in the top 100 to #21 during the contest and is now #10.  This is a great milestone because now it appears on the first page of results on Google.  It’s interesting that it dropped from the top 100 for MSN search.

For the term “Keyword 2″, Onboard is ranked #1 in two search engines, #2 in yahoo and #3 on Google.  I don’t think you can ask for better SERPs than that!  All this as a result from a marketing campaign that cost $79.
