Making money online with MLB Cubs tickets - final update

March 8th, 2007 by Kenric

This is a follow up to: Update #1: Making money online again which stemmed from Time to make some online money again!

Ebay has changed alot in the past year.  I don’t really like their new interface and it seems like their are less people bidding on things.  Also, the are cancelling many auctions due to Verified Rights Owner (VeRO).  I had a couple of my ticket auctions cancelled due to this.  I’m glad I dumped my Ebay stock last year.  I had 500 shares that I bought a long time ago.  Ebay just doesn’t feel the same now when I go search for things.

So far, I have sold 36 tickets for $2400.  The cost all my tickets were $1,600.  My profit is $800.  With 6 tickets left to go on auctions ending in a few hours I’m predicting a profit of about $1,200.  Not bad for a few hours of pure online work.

Will post a final update at the end of the day.

Update: I actually lost money on my last auction.  My 6 tickets went to under face value.  That has never happened before!  The final total is $2600.  So, $1,000 profit.

  2. I’ve been pretty disappointed with eBay over the last couple years. They are no longer a good place to sell things. No one actually enters a maximum bid amount anymore - they just enter the minimum amount to make them the current high bidder. There are scads of computer programs that will wait until literally the last few seconds of an auction to place a bid, thus not giving other bidders a chance to raise their bids and therefore depriving the seller of a higher selling price. I work with a guy who is from Japan and returns there frequently. He says eBay in Japan works differently. If a bid is placed in the last minutes of an auction, the auction is automatically extended by 5 minutes to give other bidders a chance. eBay in the US needs to start doing that.
