Turning $1 into $1,000 playing poker online - update #9

September 2nd, 2007 by Kenric

Wow, I can’t believe it has been over a month since my last poker update.  When I first started this journey of turning $1 into $1000 playing poker in May, I really thought I would be doing it playing cash games.  I hit my $50 milestone in just two days.  I hit the $100 target a week later.  On my last update I had $483 and it’s been hell breaking that $500 barrier and holding it.  I finally busted past it and was able to break $600 last month.

In July, I switched over to Sit-n-Go tournaments instead of cash games. Unfortunately, my poker software doesn’t combine cash and sit-n-go games so I can’t use the graphs anymore.

I haven’t been playing alot of poker.  I need to really play more if I’m going to make my goal in a timely manner.  To give you an idea of how much I’ve played to get this far, I’ve played:

  • 31,403 hands in cash games
  • 80 various sit-n-go tournaments ranging from $6-$16 buy ins

My running total is at $671.  With some luck I should hit $1000 within 2 weeks if I just continue to play at a consistent basis.

  5. Interesting challenge!

How much do you think your making in a hour on average?

  6. I really don’t know. I’m sure it’s not really that good. I’m going to do a quick calc.

Out of 31,000 hands, I’ve made about $450 from the cashgames. So you figure, I’m making $0.014 per hand. I can play 600 hands an hour, so $8.70/hr?

Each sitngo lasts about 1 hour, and I can play 4 at a time. So 80/4 = 20hours. I’ve made $200, so my rate is $10/hr for sitngo’s.

  7. Congrats on building your bankroll. Sit ‘n go poker is a great way to increase your bankroll while keeping your variance low.
