Turning $1 into $1,000: A Poker Goal - update #4

June 10th, 2007 by Kenric

Poker Epiphany!!!!  Going from $100 to $200 took less than 2,000 hands.  Next is the $500 milestone!

Sorry to make another poker update so fast but something clicked.  I’ll have a real estate update tomorrow, I don’t know what’s going on with SFH#1.  I actually got sick over the weekend.  I must have ate something bad or got the stomach flu on Thursday.  I had a stomach ache and massive muscle soreness.  In fact, it was so bad that I stayed in bed all day Friday and Saturday.  I did not make it to the Flagstaff Adventure Race on Saturday.  There was no way I could have run 6 miles and biked 12 after not eating for 2 days.

The good news is that while I was in bed all day, all I did was read poker forums and play poker.  I would read alot, play a little and go to sleep.  Then I’d wake up and do it over again.  Pretty soon I was dreaming poker hands and thinking about how to play hands while I tried to go to sleep.  It obviously helped my poker play this weekend.

I can’t explain it, but I went into autopilot poker playing.  I was in the zone.  It could be a fluke.  I only have 2000+ hands played so far but it just began to feel easy.  If you look at my graph, I was struggling, going sideways before that.  I was winning, but it felt very forced.  This weekend, it felt natural and easy.

In fact, out of the 2,000 hands, I can remember only 5-8 hands where I made “I just wanted to see if I’m wrong” bad calls in which I lost a significant chunk of money.  I do have to attribute alot of my winnings to how bad other players actually are.  The hands they showdown their stacks with were crazy.  For example, I had AA, the board is (K 10 3 K 7).  I really expected to lose this to AK but the guy showed A 10 and called a shove on the flop!

We’ll see in a week if this weekend was a fluke.  I should have another 10,000 hands complete before the next update.
