Realtors…

February 20th, 2006 by Kenric

I have to vent this because these freakin’ realtors just have no clue sometimes. I have two condos on the market with tenants and both are on lockboxes. Well I get a call from each tenant this weekend because some idiot realtors aren’t reading the listing and are just incompetent. My listings clearly stated that there are tenants in them and to call me before showing.

Well guess what, two realtors showed up this weekend unannounced while my tenant was home. One didn’t even knock and just barged right in. He said he thought it was empty! She could have been in the shower, dressing, etc… I had my realtor call him to find out what the deal was and he admitted he didn’t even read the listing!

The other realtor called my phone number and said nobody answered. I guess no answer means it’s ok to just go in. Obviously, my tenant was unhappy about it and she now locks the outer screen door when she’s home. She shouldn’t have to deal with that crap. I’m lucky that she’s a nice person and isn’t going to do anything further.

Then after all of that, on my other condo I get a call from my tenant who has been out of town saying that when she got home her screen door and main door were unlocked and open! She said she didn’t notice if anything was missing before she called me. I had my realtor find out who used the lockbox last and it was last accessed on Feb 14th. So basically her condo was just left open for 5 days!

The reason I’m posting this is because of the potential consequences of what happened. I mean what if my tenant’s belongings were all gone. You think I could get the realtor to pay for that. What if my tenants were mad enough to pursue further action? For then to allow me to put a lockbox on is a privilege and I’m grateful for that.

  3. funny thing these mls listings and lock boxes.

I once saw a house that was supposedly vacant and while the agent was fiddling with the combination lock box i glanced through the side window. it was a 1 level condo and i could see diagonally into the bedroom. there was a naked girl blow-drying her hair and she didn’t hear us ringing the door bell. needless to say, we made a quiet escape without bothering to get in!!
