Non financial goals - let’s run some races

March 21st, 2007 by Kenric

One thing that Tom Wheelwright mentioned during his presentation that you must work non-financial goals into your financial goals.  He asked one of the people present for a non-financial goal.  One person said it that his goal was to run a sub 3 hour marathon within 5 years.  This was a perfect example as his goal required consistent exercise and any financial plan would have to incorporate in this time.

I love mountain biking.  It is the one thing that I can do everyday, no matter how bad my legs are burning.  Along with it, I like outdoor sports such as adventure races.  So one of my goals for this year (even before these financial goal posts) was to enter more races and see more new places.

So here’s the first event that I’ve entered. It is called The Flagstaff Amazing Race.  I’m a big fan of CBS’s Amazing Race (hope to enter it one of these days) so when I saw this event offered I had to enter.  It doesn’t seem like a physically challenging race, it seems more mental.  I wonder if I’ll yet at my teammate for getting lost like they do on the TV show.

The second event I want to enter is the Under The Stars Night Adventure Race 1st Ever Flagstaff Summer Night Sprint Race!!!.   I’ve never done a night race yet so this should be interesting.
