Night time adventure race this weekend

June 5th, 2007 by Kenric

This weekend is going to be my first nighttime adventure race.  While its 107 degrees in Phoenix, Flagstaff is a nice 75 degrees in the day and 43 degrees at night.  I spent the weekend shopping for my headlamp, some cold weather gear and new shoes.  What I love about adventure races is that somebody has done all the preparation for you.  All you have to do is show up.  As a person that plans every detail of every vacation, it’s nice to have someone else do it for you.  The thought going into the night with many unknowns is very exciting.  It’s definitely a change from everyday events.

The big question for this weekend is, “What is this water event?”  Are they really going to make us get soaked at night in 50 degree temperatures?  If so, what kind of clothes do I bring?  In one of our past adventure races, right after we got done with the kayaking we changed into dry clothes.  As soon as we hopped on our bikes we had to do this. Doh!
