I-pod shuffle contest results
July 11th, 2007 by KenricSo let’s look at the results. Using Shoemoney’s Search Engine Ranking Program, I ranked the two search terms that we were targeting. As you can see, the site was Not Found in all major search engines for the 1st term and Not Found for Google on the 2nd term.

The above snapshot was taken on June 20th, the day the contest started. Below are the results from July 9th, a mere 19 days later. For Keyword 1, the site is now ranked 21 on Google and 34 on MSN. This is a far cry from Not Found. For Keyword 2, the site is number 3 on both Google and MSN. This is front page, above the fold results!

So was the contest worth it? Definitely. It was a mere $70 prize to increase organic search results instead of constantly paying per click. I think that a bigger prize, more entries and longer running contest could have put the results in the top ten for the 1st search term. But for now, we’re happy with the results and we don’t want to anger the Google God.

Holy cow! The masses are impressed!
It is interesting to note who quickly this change in page ranking took place. Search engines are really going after the “user-experience” angle with keeping their information current.
Good follow through on your part.
