Entering the rat race again?
June 26th, 2006 by KenricIt’s amazing how much stuff you accumulate even over the course of one year. I am a minimalist, I don’t have anything in my house that I don’t use. I still filled up a 16′ truck and needed about 4 trips in my SUV. I’m not completely done yet, but I have tomorrow to finish and to clean the house. I meet my new tenants tomorrow at SFH#2.
With real estate in Phoenix stagnating I’m contemplating moving to a different city. I’ve thought about getting a regular job again. I’m picturing myself going to work and using that money to pay down some loans and increase my cashflow faster. After living off minimal cashflow for two years imagine what I can do with an actual paycheck on top of that! Imagine getting full doc loans and health and dental insurance! It’s so odd, but the benefits of a job for me now are totally different than what I thought they would be years ago. I know it sounds odd but I’m really looking foward to going to work for the actual daily mundane schedule, co-workers, doing some type of work and just have some place to go!

Do you think this is because your days aren’t filled? Do you find this boring?

I think it’s because I don’t feel like I’m moving forward. I’m not spending my day productively. I don’t want to buy in this Phx market so I’m actively doing any REI, which to me means that I’m wasting my time.

K dog, I saw some numbers on resale homes and prices yesterday, and I’m not sure the market is stagnating. Was looking pretty good in Glendale and even better in Peoria. I’ll try to find the numbers again and put them in my blog!

Monarchcrest, I admit I have experienced a little of the stagnation you wrote about since I became a full-time REI’er. It takes self-discipline and effort, but I think the best way to deal with the void that comes with self-employment is to continually educate yourself. That’s my plan, anyway. You can always be better at your business. And, you could always invest in other areas of the country while still living in Phoenix. Are you able to travel to see other areas of the country you might be willing to invest in? You could take some road trips!
