Blog content comments
June 5th, 2006 by KenricI’ve been actively trying to post more frequently about day to day stuff. I guess sometimes things don’t seem important enough for me to write about so I don’t even mention them. For example, I could go over the inspection report in detail and what I did to fix the issues, or I could go over my thought process in the lowball offers, or how I screened my new tenant, etc… but sometimes I figure that that kind of stuff may bore people who just like to read about the big picture. Being an engineer I tend to write more to the point without much visuals or explanations. So I thought I’d see what my readers would like to see more of. I’d like to hear your comments. Thanks.

Remember when you were first starting out, how hard it was to find details on things like screening tenants? Detail like is very valuable, and if you structure your posts such that the big picture is covered first, and the nit picky details are covered last, then you don’t have to worry about loosing readership.

I agree with qbrain. I have read numerous books and other publications on checking potential tenants’ credit scores, and I haven’t found anything. Everyone just recommends that you do it. How do you check credit scores? I ended up just having my tenant sign saying that they allow me to check it. I figured anything negative might have come out then. The big picture is very interesting, but when you’re completely green (and trying not to appear that way with tenants), it’s the actual details and implementation that is helpful.
Thank you for letting us in on your journey! It’s so helpful to see the day-to-day experience.

I feel you should write when and what you want to write. I’ve learned a few things, reading your blog. The more details you reveal, the more the readers can benefit. Next thing you know, you’ll be having your own real estate semainars, charging $99 per person! Hey, you never know.
