Big rain, small leaks

December 4th, 2007 by Kenric

We had two straight days of rain on Friday and Saturday.  Late Friday night, I began to here the pitter patter of water drops on my carpet.  I look up and see a large paint bubble on the ceiling.  So I did what any guy would do, I stuck a knife into it and pierced the bubble.  The water came streaming out.  I began to pick at the wet drywall more and more until I made a nice hole in the ceiling.  I figured it would help the wet drywall dry faster.

I went around and searched the rest of the house and found another small leak.  This one was dripping from a nail that had been used to hang a plant by the previous owner, I think.

Next was the search for the roofing company.  When I bought the house in April I remembered that the roof was just installed in 2006.  There was a 5 year warranty and it was transferable to any new owner as long as they paid a $50 transfer fee within 60 days of moving in.  And yes, I did remember to do that at day 55.  Problem was, where was that paper now and what was the roofing company’s name?

Searching through my mail and what do you know?  It’s a Christmas card from the roofing company!  It’s nice to know they were thinking of me.  I open the card and there’s the phone number I needed.

  2. Wow, how convenient of them! They should be re-thinking their Christmas card strategy for next year. ;-)

Good luck with the roof repairs! Thank goodness you paid that transferable-warranty fee!

  3. They are on the roof as I type this. They found the leaks. Should be a simple fix. :)
