Awakenings
July 12th, 2007 by KenricI was reading their post about the movie, The Matrix. The Matrix has spawned a large following and many books about its meaning. I’ve read a few of those books and find it pretty interesting.
Below is an excerpt from Rich Twin Poor Twin’s post.
“The real world is not like the movie, The Matrix, where you take a pill and are magically awakened. But I promise you this, if you get to a point in your life where you know the path that lies ahead of you is not where you want to go, you can instantly change your entire course. You just have to want it enough and believe you can do it even though you don’t have all the answers yet; let faith guide you.”
This is something that I realized back in 2004. However, I’ve found that it’s not just one awakening that gets you to your destination, it’s a series of them. In fact when I look back just a mere 3 years, I can see a series of awakenings.
The first one was realizing that passive income is the key to long term financial stability. Once I understood that time is was the main currency of life, going from time based income to asset based income was a priority.
However, during this first stage, there was no thought of never working again. The thought was to increase passive income to supplement my day job. Make a few extra bucks a month and be set for retirement. Buy cool stuff.
The next major shift was gradually realizing that I may not ever need another job. This realization wasn’t really about the money, but it’s more about the confidence that you can make it on your own. You don’t need someone to trade you money for your time. This awakening said to me, “Hey I’ve got a brain and I should put it to better use than to sit in a cube and surf online all day.”
Take a look at this video which I found on Adventures in Money Making. I love videos like this that make me think. They also reinforce the thought that the world is constantly changing. You have to be open to change or you’ll get left behind.
