Advanced SEO class

October 15th, 2009 by Kenric

I took a 3 day advanced SEO class about two months ago.  The reason I took the class was because I felt like I was at a wall when it came to SEO.  I had gotten many of my sites to the front page of Google, but I couldn’t get them above #6.  I felt like I needed more knowledge.  I also justified taking the class because I could use the knowledge on several sites at a time.

The class was very informative and I did learn alot.  My main SEO strategy before the class was just link building and linking to my ebiz sites.  But I learned many other aspects of SEO that I had completely ignored or didn’t focus on that much.

  • On Page SEO – I learned to tweak my content to make it more Google friendly.  I learned that all pages should have content and the more pages the better, even for an online store.
  • LSI – Latent Semantic Indexing – I learned how to find out what words Google associates with other words and how to integrate these words into my content
  • Link pyramids – I learned about building link pyramids and creating your own content network
  • Link matrices – Basically interchanging links

After I was taught this, I searched for it on the web and I did find that most of it was readily available.  However, I wouldn’t have understood the websites I went to very well without the class.

  2. All of this is fascinating to me. I have tons of unique items to sell and I can’t figure out how to do it. Everything seems so labor intensive — and I hate that.

  3. I’m familiar with all these concepts.

The only issue I have is how to generate all the content that goes onto all these sites. I can’t imagine google taking an interest in a blank webpage with nothing but hyperlinks. This is where I get lost.

  4. Thanks Ken. I’ve only been doing the basic link building process that you did. The extra steps you listed seem very interesting and something I had no idea about. I guess it’s time to check out what the local schools have for classes.

  5. I find that it’s hard to nail down SEO–it’s always changing and each search engine has its own unique criteria. But taking an SEO course is a good thing for all bloggers. Great post.

  6. LSI is new to me. I’ve got to look that up. Learn something new everyday.
